Gedaliah was a biblical figure who served as the governor of Judah during the Babylonian captivity. He was the son of Ahikam and the grandson of Shaphan, a scribe in the court of King Josiah. Gedaliah was appointed by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to be the governor of Judah after the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem. He was tasked with rebuilding the city and restoring the people of Judah to their homeland. Gedaliah was known for his kindness and generosity towards the people of Judah.
