Haran was a biblical figure, the son of Terah and the brother of Abraham and Nahor. He is best known for his role in the story of Abraham's journey from Ur to Canaan. According to the Bible, Terah and his family were instructed by God to leave Ur and travel to the land of Canaan. Haran, however, chose to stay in Ur and died there. Haran is also mentioned in the Bible as the father of Lot, who was taken in by Abraham after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
