Jeremy is the form of the prophet Jeremiah's name used in the King James Version of the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew twice calls him Jeremy the prophet and presents his words as fulfilled in events connected with Jesus. The first instance introduces a fulfilled saying in the account of Jesus' early life (Matthew 2:17).
The second ties a saying about thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued by the children of Israel, to events at the end of Jesus' life (Matthew 27:9). In both places the KJV gives the name as Jeremy, following the Greek spelling, rather than the familiar Old Testament form Jeremiah.
