This chapter tells the story of the rape of Dinah, Jacob's daughter and the revenge of her brothers.

Commentary

Genesis 34 is a chapter that tells the story of the rape of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob. Dinah had gone out to visit the women of the land, and while she was there, Shechem, the son of Hamor, the prince of the land, saw her and took her by force. When Jacob heard what had happened, he was understandably angry and demanded that Shechem and his father make reparations for the wrong they had done. Hamor and Shechem agreed to the terms, and a plan was made for Shechem to marry Dinah and for the men of the land to be circumcised.
