1Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.

2And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

4And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.

Commentary

Judges chapter 20 is a powerful chapter that speaks to the power of God and His ability to bring justice and peace to His people. In this chapter, the Israelites are in a state of civil war, with the tribes of Benjamin and the other tribes of Israel in conflict. The other tribes of Israel have come together to seek justice against the tribe of Benjamin for their wickedness. The Israelites gather together at Mizpah and the Lord sends a prophet to speak to them. The prophet tells them that the Lord will deliver justice and that the tribe of Benjamin will be defeated.
