What is Ivah in the Bible?

Named by Assyrian envoys as a city whose gods and king could not resist Assyria.

Ivah is a city named in the boasts of the Assyrian envoys during their siege threats against Jerusalem in the days of King Hezekiah. The Rabshakeh lists it with Hamath, Arpad, Sepharvaim and Hena, asking where the gods of these places are and whether they delivered Samaria out of the Assyrian king's hand (2 Kings 18:34).

In a later message the Assyrians ask where the king of Ivah is, together with the kings of Hamath, Arpad, Sepharvaim and Hena (2 Kings 19:13). Isaiah records the same message (Isaiah 37:13). In these verses Ivah serves as an example of a city whose gods and king could not withstand Assyria, offered to persuade Judah that its God would fail as well.
