What is Moriah in the Bible?
The land where Abraham was told to offer Isaac, and the mount at Jerusalem where Solomon built the Temple.
Moriah is a place named twice in the Old Testament. In Genesis, God tells Abraham to take his son Isaac into the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains God would show him (Genesis 22:2).
Moriah in the Bible
In Chronicles, mount Moriah is the site at Jerusalem where Solomon begins to build the house of the LORD. The verse describes it as the place where the LORD appeared to David, Solomon's father, and the spot David had prepared on the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite (2 Chronicles 3:1). Genesis speaks of a land of Moriah with several mountains, and Chronicles speaks of a single mount Moriah at Jerusalem.
The two passages share the name, but neither verse states outright that the mountain of Abraham's offering and the Temple site are the same place.
