Zin in the Bible

The whole congregation of Israel later came into the desert of Zin in the first month and stayed at Kadesh, where Miriam died and was buried (Numbers 20:1). The list of Israel's camps identifies the wilderness of Zin with Kadesh (Numbers 33:36). Zin is also the site of the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, where God says his commandment was rebelled against and he was not sanctified before the people (Numbers 27:14; Deuteronomy 32:51).

Zin marks the southern boundary of the promised land, running along the border of Edom (Numbers 34:3). Zin is also named as a point on that border line, between the ascent of Akrabbim and Kadeshbarnea (Numbers 34:4). The same boundary forms the southern edge of the tribe of Judah's allotment (Joshua 15:1, 3).
