Commentary

Genesis 23 is a chapter that speaks to the importance of honoring the dead. It begins with the death of Sarah, Abraham's wife, and his grief over her passing. Abraham then sets out to find a burial place for her, and he negotiates with the Hittites for a cave in which to bury her. Abraham's willingness to pay a high price for the cave shows his respect for Sarah and his desire to give her a proper burial.
