God commands that Aaron's rod be kept as a reminder of his chosen position as high priest.
Commentary
In Numbers 17, we see the Lord instructing Moses to take twelve rods, one from each of the twelve tribes of Israel, and place them in the tabernacle. The Lord then tells Moses to write the name of each tribe on their respective rod and lay them in the tabernacle. On the following day, Moses is to bring out the rods and the rod of the tribe of Levi will have budded, blossomed, and produced almonds. This is a sign from the Lord that the tribe of Levi is to be chosen to serve Him in the tabernacle.
