2 Corinthians 2: The Forgiveness of Sin

Paul explains that he had to change his plans to visit Corinth and apologizes for any pain his previous letter may have caused.

Commentary

In 2 Corinthians 2, Paul is addressing the church in Corinth and encouraging them to forgive and restore a man who had sinned against them. He begins by reminding them of the comfort and encouragement they have received from God, and how they should extend that same grace to their fellow brother. He then goes on to explain that the punishment for the man’s sin should be sufficient, and that they should not add to it by withholding forgiveness. Paul then encourages them to forgive and restore the man, so that the church can be unified and the man can be restored to fellowship.
