Commentary

Judges chapter 18 is a narrative of the Danites’ search for a new home. The Danites had been unable to conquer their allotted portion of the Promised Land, so they sent out five men to scout out a new place to settle. The men eventually came to the city of Laish, which was inhabited by a people who were “quiet and unsuspecting” and “lived in security” (Judges 18:7). The Danites saw this as an opportunity to take the city for themselves, and they did so without any resistance.
