Commentary
Joshua 24 is a pivotal chapter in the book of Joshua, as it marks the end of the conquest of the Promised Land and the beginning of the Israelites’ occupation of it. In this chapter, Joshua gathers the people of Israel together and reminds them of all that God has done for them. He recounts the history of their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, and how God had delivered them from their enemies. He then challenges the people to choose whom they will serve: the gods of their ancestors or the Lord. The people respond with a resounding declaration of loyalty to the Lord, and Joshua makes a covenant with them to serve Him alone.
