Commentary

Judges 1 is the first chapter of the book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible. It tells the story of the Israelites’ conquest of the land of Canaan, which was promised to them by God. The chapter begins with the Israelites asking the Lord for guidance in their conquest of the land. The Lord responds by telling them to go up and take possession of the land, and to drive out the inhabitants. The Israelites then proceed to do so, with the help of the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
