The Israelites continue to worship other gods, and as a result, God raises up judges to deliver them from their oppressors.

Commentary

Judges chapter 2 is a continuation of the story of the Israelites’ conquest of the Promised Land. In this chapter, the Angel of the Lord appears to the Israelites and tells them that they have failed to keep their covenant with God. He explains that they have not driven out the inhabitants of the land as they were commanded to do, and that as a result, the people of the land will be a snare and a temptation to them. The Angel of the Lord then warns the Israelites that if they do not obey God’s commands, they will be punished.
