Commentary

In Numbers 13, Moses sends twelve spies to scout out the land of Canaan, the Promised Land that God has promised to the Israelites. The spies return with a report of the land, which is described as a land flowing with milk and honey. However, ten of the spies also report that the inhabitants of the land are powerful and that the Israelites will not be able to conquer them. This causes the people to become discouraged and fearful, and they begin to grumble against Moses and God.
