Numbers 26: The Census of the Israelites

A second census is taken of the Israelites and the land is apportioned among the tribes.

Commentary

In Numbers 26, the Lord instructs Moses to take a census of the Israelites. This census is to be taken in order to determine the number of men of military age who are able to fight in battle. The Lord also instructs Moses to divide the land among the tribes of Israel according to the number of people in each tribe. This is a significant moment in the history of the Israelites, as it marks the beginning of the process of dividing the Promised Land among the tribes.
